Baked fish is wonderful but there's nothing like fried fish, especially when it comes to tilapia and whiting. Tender on the inside and crunchy on the outside, its perfect for any season especially the summer. What's better than fried whiting? Fried whiting with a bit of a spice and heat! A little cayenne pepper goes a long way for fried fish and chicken recipes and is probably the reason why you keep going back for more bites. I don't make fried fish often but when I do its a treat! Try this recipe for your next summer gathering or family dinner.
Ingredients:
-5-6 whiting fillets with the skin removed
-1 cup breadcrumbs
-1 cup flour
-1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper
-1 tsp. smoked paprika
-2 tsp. garlic salt
-1 tsp. onion powder
-1 tsp. garlic powder
-1/8 tsp. black pepper
-1 cup vegetable oil for frying
Steps:
Pat whiting fillets dry. Mix all seasoning ingredients in a bowl. One by one, coat the fish fillets with the mixture and set aside. Let the coated fish sit for 15 minutes.
In a pot, heat the vegetable oil on med-high heat. Once smoke starts to rise, add the fish and cook for 8 minutes. Gently remove the fish with tongs and place on a plate lined with paper towels. Serve with your favorite veggie side(s). Enjoy!
